Scouts plant saplings to mitigate climate change

To mark World Environment Day 2009, some 30 scout members nationwide yesterday embarked on a sapling-planting project at Kampong Sungai Mau, Mukim Bukit Sawat, with joint cooperation from the Sungai Liang Forestry Department.

"The project involved planting local trees - particularly the Periuk Kera otherwise known as Sumbui-Sumbui - at an allocated land measuring 300 metres square," Rover Scouts Commissioner Haji Othman Durani said.

The scouts also planted other local saplings such as Pinang, Mempelam nad Pokok Bunga.
The scouts pledged to plant 65,000 trees out of the astounding goal of five billion trees in the country, he added.

The local scouts joined scout members nationwide in the tree-planting project with the attempt to mitigate climate change.
